By the early 2000’s, the newly minted Waldan Classics collection was in full bloom. Highly complicated watches housed iconic movements; all crafted in precious metals and adorned with meticulous finishing. No watch ever produced by Waldan would break this mold, until the 3986. Introducing the only Waldan chronograph produced in an alternative metal, and the only co-designed model that has both Oscar’s and Andrew’s design imprint.
In 2016, Andrew began the experiment of remaking a current model with a frame meant for the modern watch wearer and a more avant-garde design. The test subject would be the iconic Ref. 0195 of the flagship Chronograph Chronometer line. Over the course of the next year, Andrew and Oscar reverse engineered and reconstructed the full calendar, moon phase + chronograph watch into a new format.
Meet the Ref. 3986S. This new adaptation, in a burlier 42mm frame is made of ultra-lightweight, yet durable, matte black DLC (diamond like carbon) coated titanium. It features AR treated sapphire crystals on the front and reverse side of the watch. The all-red dial format sets a striking contrast and features exquisite details like guilloché finishing within the dial’s sunken and trimmed counters. The dial and hands are treated with SuperLuminova for lume. The unique “Swiss DNA” lettering at 6 is a subtle nod to the brand’s transition to full U.S. production and assembly.
While original Waldan watches were entirely produced in Switzerland, these were some of the first models to set the pace for Waldan’s transition to American Built. These are entirely hand assembled in the U.S., but made with Swiss movements and parts.
