How To Change A Strap On Your Waldan Watch: A Step By Step Guide

Whether you're elevating your style or simply refreshing your favorite timepiece, changing the strap on your Waldan watch is one of the easiest ways to make your timepiece feel brand new. In this guide, we'll walk you through how to safely and confidently change your Waldan strap at home. No trip to a jeweler required.

At Waldan, our watches are not only build in the USA with timeless quality, but are also designed with versatility in mind. All of our watch straps are interchangeable, and compatible with generally any strap or bracelet that's 20mm in lug width. The style of our lugs can fit any watch strap, and watch bracelets that are straight bar, or even feature curved or folded end links can be fitted to the case.

Why Change Your Watch Strap?

Swapping your strap allows you to:

  • Match and customize your watch to the season of your outfit.
  • Refresh your timepiece without buying a new one.
  • Extend the life of your original strap.
  • Add a personal touch to your Waldan Heritage Professional or Sportline model.

What You'll Need

  • A Waldan watch with your current strap attached.
  • Your new replacement strap, either traditional with classic spring bars or featuring quick release spring bars.
  • A clean, flat surface.
  • A soft cloth or microfiber pad to prevent scratching.
  • (for traditional watch straps with classic spring bars) A spring bar tool.

Step By Step Instructions (Traditional straps, follow steps 1-4 + 8. Quick release straps, follow steps 1, 5-8)

1. Prepare Your Workspace: Lay your watch face down on a soft cloth to avoid scratching the crystal or case back. Make sure you're working in a well lit area.

2. (for traditional straps) Locate The Sliding End Piece: A traditional spring bar is a small, spring loaded rod that connects the watch bracelet to the case. It comprises a cylindrical tube with two sliding end pieces that are pushed inwards by a spring. The end pieces have flanges that can be used to help push in the end pieces.

3. Slide The End Piece: Using an appropriate spring bar tool, slide the flange and end piece of one side towards the center of the spring bar, This compresses the spring bar inside. Gently pull the spring bar/strap away from the lug. It should detach easily. Repeat for the other side.

4. Attach The New Strap: Take your replacement strap and align the spring bar with the lug holes. Use the same spring bar tool to compress one corner of the spring bar again, while the other corner stays fixed in one of the lug holes. Guide the compressed spring bar into place and gently release. You should hear or feel a subtle click.

5. (for quick release straps) Locate the Quick Release Mechanism: On the back/underside of the watch strap, look for and locate the small metal lever near where it meets the lugs. This is the quick release tab.

6. Slide The Lever: Using your fingernail or a small tool, slide the quick release lever towards the center of the strap. This compresses the spring bar inside. While holding the lever in place, gently pull the strap away from the lug. It should detach easily. Repeat for the other side.

7. Attach The New Strap: Take your replacement strap and align one end of the spring bar with the lug holes. Slide the quick release lever again, insert one end of the spring bar into the lug hole, then slowly guide the strap into place between the lugs. Gently release the lever. You should hear of feel a subtle click.

8. Check The Fit: Gently tug on both sides of the strap to ensure it's securely attached before putting the watch back on your wrist.

Final Tips

  • Always handle your watch with case and avoid forcing the strap into place. This can damage both the spring bar, and scratch your case.
  • Store your unused straps in a cool, dry place.
  • Clean leather straps occasionally with a soft cloth and leather friendly conditioner
